Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, commemorates an important
step towards the end of slavery in the United States. On Wednesday, June 19, the nation comes together to acknowledge and celebrate the end of the Civil War and chattel slavery in this country.
Juneteenth was designated as a federal holiday in 2021. While several employers have added this day as company holiday, more effort should focus on diverse hiring, promoting equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in the workplace. What can your company do to move the needle around these efforts? We challenge employers to recognize Juneteenth as part of its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) programs, and strengthen its commitment to its values and overall strategic workplace initiatives.
